Mr. President and Members, I'd like to also introduce you to a fantastic group of individuals. They are from the YMCA of Honolulu, Hawaii Island, and Maui. They are the CEO, staff, and students who are champions of youth mental health. Unfortunately, here in Hawaii, we have witnessed a sharp increase in depression and anxiety amongst our youth.

  • Glenn Wakai

An estimated 10,000 young folks ages 12 to 17 suffer from depression, yet nearly 69% do not receive any type of care. The YMCA program serves more than 4,000 of our children by offering them stress management tools, social support, and physical wellness activities.

  • Glenn Wakai

    Legislator

And they are joined today by our friends from Dole Middle School, home of Senator Kim's district. We'd like to welcome the Dole Middle School students, as well as the folks who help with the YMCA in keeping our children safe, protected, and highly progressive in their learning activities.
