Mr. President, colleagues, staff, and guests, I just wanted to have a belated birthday blessings to the esteemed senator from District 10 who celebrated his birthday over the weekend. [Hawaiian].
- Les Ihara
Legislator
I-- Mr. President, I want to note the passing of our governor, Ariyoshi. I was a University of Hawaii student up in his office, full-time student in the spring of 1972, and I honor this gentleman who is my first mentor and of high office, and may we carry his spirit in the work that we do in this sacred building and honor him today. Thank you, Mr. President.
- Donna Kim
Legislator
I wanna add to the senator's remarks about our governor. All of you who drive in your cars, when you get in and you see your tinted windows is because Governor Ariyoshi signed the bill. It was controversial and he was being recommended to veto the bill because people couldn't see in the cars. It was too dark. It was dangerous.
- Donna Kim
Legislator
He actually got into my VW Beetle and rode as a passenger in the car, and we rode around the block so he could see that you could see in and out, and he actually signed the bill after that. So, he was a real statesman and he-- under his watch, we enjoyed many years of budget surplus. So, thank you.
- Ron Kouchi
Legislator
Thank you. Any further announcements? If not, the Chair has one. For the duration of the 2026 conference period, conferees will be named and revised in accordance with the action sheet reports on the capitol website and said actions will be reflected in the journal. Senator Wakai.
