Every year, our State Chamber Chamber of Commerce Hawaii brings the community from business leaders, entrepreneurs, local small business owners and our future student workforce.

    And they bring them to the Capitol to learn and to engage about the legislative process. The DOE brings students here today so they have the opportunity to learn about the legislative process and to advocate for their voices, the things that they deeply care about and to learn about the importance of civic education.

    This morning at the Capitol, they discussed the question, what are the challenges facing their community? What are the challenges facing our state? And how can we present potential solutions to these challenges? This afternoon between 1 and 2:30pm the students will be visiting our offices for their annual high school Capital walk around.

The students of Campbell High School presented this morning on bike and pedestrian safety in the Ewa Beach community. I Would like to read the names just of the five teachers because Campbell High School has a lot of kids here today.

    This is the first time in Kauai's history that all four schools qualified a team, and we've got them all here today. So, schools, if you could please rise.     And we all know how they're often overworked, you know, underpaid and being stretched to do so many things. And really, without them, we wouldn't be all here today. Today they're here to share with all of you their priorities, which your offices should have received.

    But just briefly, their priorities for this year, including protecting and enhancing their financial security, looking at prioritizing their safety.

    So we've heard a lot of bills on protecting educational workers and sports officials, affordable teacher housing, funding high quality Hawaiian history, language and cultural education, funding programs for our vulnerable and underserved populations, including those in special ed and English learners, and finally establishing a non voting public school teacher on the Board of education.
