  • Glenn Wakai

    Legislator

Mr. President, I move that the Senate bills numbers 3045 to 3271, pass first reading by title and be referred to Committee.

  • Samantha DeCorte

    Legislator

Senator DeCorte. Mr. President, I second the motion.

  • Ron Kouchi

    Legislator

It's been moved and seconded. Is there any discussion? Any objections? If not, the motion is carried.

    No further business. Mr. President.

  • Ron Kouchi

    Legislator

Are there any announcements today? Senator Awa.

  • Brenton Awa

    Legislator

Mahalo. Pelekena. Personal privilege. Please proceed. Thank you. Just want to point out that one of those resolutions that we just pushed through urges the Senate U.S. to establish an investigative Committee to look at who took the $35,000 in a paper bag. I just want to request urge you folks to get a hearing.

  • Brenton Awa

    Legislator

Most likely it'll be with Senator. Senator Rhodes. Senator Rhodes, if you need me trade a vote. I trade a vote for this one. But all jokes aside, I was thinking about it and I was like, I know the Attorney General is investigating. But I was like, who knows how long this is going to take?

  • Brenton Awa

    Legislator

And I know there's at least one person coming up on confirmation to one of our committees who was a former lawmaker. And I personally would like to know.

  • Brenton Awa

    Legislator

Not from the person who it is before we get through this legislative session so that it's not in the back of my mind when we're having to do our job, putting former lawmakers or even if the person is still in office working with them. So I'd like to know, I don't know how you guys feel.

  • Brenton Awa

    Legislator

Just wanted to point out SR4 is there, would like it to get referred and heard. Mahalo.

  • Mike Gabbard

    Legislator

Thank you, Senator Gabbard, Mr. President, colleagues, staff and guests, I just want to say Manuel Fanao to Senator Chris Lee as he turns 45 today, as he inches toward that milestone of Hawaii 5o. Please give him a hand. Aloha. Congrats.

  • Ron Kouchi

    Legislator

Happy birthday. Further announcement, Senator McKelvey.

  • Glenn Wakai

    Legislator

Not an announcement. Just want the Clerk to note my presence. That's all.

  • Ron Kouchi

    Legislator

So noted. Any further announcements? If not, the chair has few. Today is the last day for bill introduction. The limit is five bills per Member and the deadline is 4:30 this afternoon. Majority Members, please report to the majority caucus room immediately following session before asking for adjournment. I did want to use personal privilege myself.

  • Ron Kouchi

    Legislator

After my remarks on Monday, people were asking me who was the individual I was talking about who did not have the shoes to try out for football and eventually forged a great career in volleyball.

  • Ron Kouchi

    Legislator

And I need to admit that when I got to work on Monday morning, Jamie Wataro was waiting to ask me why I wasn't at the volleyball fundraiser the night before, an event I usually attend. And I was at Senator Aquino's Mahalo Farewell that night.

  • Ron Kouchi

    Legislator

And the individual was or is Victor Talamoa, who got the Pai Ma Kaukau Alumni Recognition Award that is annually given since 2010 by the men's Program for Distinguished Alumni. I later ran into General Mallory, the Deputy General for the State of Hawaii Department of Defense. He's with the Air Guard.

  • Ron Kouchi

    Legislator

And I by then had learned that besides success and coaching volleyball, Victor is a colonel in the Air Guard. And so the career path he was able to forge with the educational opportunity given to him by his volleyball skills has led him to be in great service to all of us here in in this state.

  • Ron Kouchi

    Legislator

And he was a player from 1989 to 1994 at the University of Hawaii. Rod put this together for me, so he wanted me to say that he was a Kamehameha Schools graduate in 1986 and apparently is currently stationed in Maryland, trying to get back home to Hawaii.

  • Ron Kouchi

    Legislator

And he was meeting at Indo Pacom on Monday afternoon when his superiors who were in attendance for the Governor, State of the State, informed him that he was being referred to. And for those who have asked about the poem Service and Joy, it was by Ellen Sturgis Hooper. So with that, Senator Wakai.

  • Glenn Wakai

    Legislator

Go Bowes. I move the Senate stand adjourned until 11:30am Friday, January 30th.

  • Ron Kouchi

    Legislator

    Senator DeCorte.

  • Samantha DeCorte

    Legislator

Mr. President, I second the motion.

  • Ron Kouchi

    Legislator

It's been moved and seconded. If there are no objections from the Members, the Senate will stand adjourned until 11:30am Friday.
