Lauren Cheape Matsumoto traces her roots in Hawai‘i back to 1859. She currently represents Mililani, Waipi‘o Acres and Mililani Mauka. She was Miss Hawai‘i 2011 and is still remembered for performing a jump rope routine while speaking to children across the state, encouraging them to lead a healthy lifestyle and volunteer in their community.
Matsumoto, who is the House Minority Leader, attended Mililani Waena Elementary School, Mililani Middle School and Mililani High School. She spent time volunteering at an orphanage in Malawi, Africa.
