I want to be on the board of public water system operators because I have a lot of years of experience in that field, and I've been a operator and distribution operator. So I know what happens and what needs to happen, and I would like to make sure that the people who are submitting to get, their certification, are vetted and have the experience they need to do the work because this is about providing safe drinking water to the public.

    Yeah. But it look it looks like that you do you you are very familiar with the need for surface water treatment. And I guess what the water supply is for for Maui, and we'll be able to help us in determining policy at least for water supply for Maui.

    Yes. I understand it's for every island, but you are familiar specifically with with what's needed for Maui, so you know that whoever is being certified knows the vagaries of what's going on. Yes.

    Did really well, and none of the systems got contaminated. So we were able to do the repairs we needed without any contamination.

Pina has been attending our Board Meetings as an invited guest. She brings great critical thinking skills. She's with department of of vocational rehab, so she walks the talk.

    She has lived experience that she shares, and she's been a really great supporter through other legislation that has passed with Cowles Law as well as ABLE accounts. I'm the director of the migrant, Waipahu Immigrant Migrant Resource Center, and I'm in strong support for the nomination of Annabelle Stone to serve on the Office of Language Access Council. You know, Annabelle brings a powerful combination of policy expertise, community engagement, and lived experience as a former interpreter. She understands firsthand the barriers faced by individuals with limited English proficiency and has demonstrated a deep commitment to ensuring equitable access to services.

    Yes. Good afternoon to the panel. I am honored to be here and to seek your confirmation to a seat at the Language Access Advisory Council. I am bilingual and I work with a state funded nonprofit safety net health organization that benefit immigrants. And with my lived experiences, with my background in public health and being a community contributor as well as an interpreter, I feel like I have much to offer the council.

And it does look like from your resume and from your answers to the questionnaire that you have a lot to contribute to the Language Access Advisory Council, and we really thank you for willing to step up.     Aloha, Chair, Vice Chair, Senator Kanuha. Jack Lewin, administrator of SHIFTA. This this gentleman is really another tremendous member for us. John Nokomis, well, he was he got his bachelor's degree at University of California, Berkeley, master's from University of Hawaii, and more academic training. But his history was Kalihi Palama Health Center.

    That's when I first knew him. He worked at HMSA. I guess I'm the only person that hasn't worked at HMSA, but and he but he was the long standing CEO of AlohaCare from 1996 to 2017. So and during his tenure, the number of FQHCs expanded, the program expanded. So he's that's his real legacy here.

    He's also the, the board president for Focused, which is at, for Center for Law and Justice, and he's got Hina Malco Patch, Child and Family Service, and the Hawaii HIE and his and his background. But it's great for us to have him because of his experience in the health insurance world. So he's sitting on our highest council, the State Health Coordinating Council.

    And we really he's been a mentor to me all through the years, my director of health years and now it's really a pleasure to have John back in this important advisory role.

On behalf of Paula Arsena, Pat Brennan, Francois, Kelly Trotman, our leadership at AlohaCare, really wanting to support this nomination. As Doctor. Lewin shared, John served as, CEO of AlohaCare for many, many years.

    Among, his accomplishments are establishing a national association of community affiliated plans. So safety net health plans like AlohaCare. So we really support his ongoing efforts and contribution to doctor Lewin's work and advancing the health of our state. So thank you very much.

    Yes. Aloha. I'm John McComas, and I really appreciate the opportunity to be with you and to share with you some of my thoughts about, you know, my background and experience and how it might be helpful going forward into the future for health care in Hawaii. I've been retired now about 7 years, maybe 8, actually. And I feel like I have a strong need to and desire to continue to create contribute to our community.

    I spent a lot of my time and my background and my history in terms of working in the community. I've worked throughout the state. I've worked on all of the neighbor islands as well as on Oahu. I have been committed and dedicated to health care and in an effort to ensure that, health care for those, especially those in need, but health care in general in the state of Hawaii is available and applicable to everyone.

    And so I think this would just be an opportunity for me to continue to give back and to provide some of, hopefully, my knowledge and experience in ways that would benefit Hawaii and benefit the people of our state, and all the people of our state.

    So John McComas, we really appreciate people of your expertise willing to step up and even in retirement, willing to volunteer, and especially with your work in the Peace Corps in West Africa, no less, as well as with the many years with AlohaCare, which, you know, it's a Medicaid insurance agency that basically provides health, provides care for I mean, ensures care is provided to those who are in ALICE families and, you know, those who are Medicaid recipients.
