Senate Standing Committee on Transportation and Culture and the Arts
- Chris Lee
Legislator
Good afternoon. We're convening the Committee on Transportation, Culture and the Arts here in Conference Room 2 to 4 on our 3:01 pm agenda. This is a measure that was previously heard in this Committee. We're here for decision making today. This is Senate Bill 1095 relating to license plates, which removes the decal size restrictions for special number plates.
- Chris Lee
Legislator
Recommendation for this is to move forward with amendments. I'll just note the intent here is to make it easier for various community organizations to get specialized license plates rather than having to come through the legislative process and change the law each and every year, which has been more frequent.

Legislator
We're going to expand the ability for them to do something similar with the existing special license plate provisions, which will also reduce the burden on the counties trying to implement so they're not going through slew of procurement issues every time they got to do this.
- Chris Lee
Legislator
So we like to recommend moving this forward, amending the limitation on special license plate decals, which currently is 3 inches by 3 inches. We'll expand that to 4 inches by 4 inches to give them a little bit more of a canvas for artwork. We'll add a preamble in to that effect, which I basically just explained.
- Chris Lee
Legislator
So that's the gist of it. Is there any discussion? If not, Vice Chair.
- Lorraine Inouye
Legislator
Okay. Chair's recommendation on the Committee on Transportation and Culture and the Arts on SB 1095 is to pass with amendments. [Roll Call] Measure is adopted. Five votes. Mr. Chair.
