We stand on our written testimony. Just comments on the switch from the University to being. I think in the bill it says that the Department is going to.

  • Kathryn Stanaway

    Person

You want the Department to chair the Committee. And we support the University being the Chair. But the Department can do it too, I guess. Yeah.

  • Jeanné Kapela

  • Iliha Johnson

    Person

I just want to add that we all know living in Hawaii, how amazing it is to lie under a night sky, see the stars, see the different things out there. That's not just a benefit for astronomy. That's a benefit for everybody who looks up to the stars and dreams.

  • Iliha Johnson

    Person

So just want to add our support to this and I'm available for any questions.

  • Jeanné Kapela

    Legislator

Mahalo Nui, thank you so much for your testimony. Okay, Members, are there any questions? I have a quick question for UH.

  • Suzanne Case

    Person

Yes, under the existing Advisory Committee that's set up by statute, the University of Hawaii is lead. And so we. The University organized meetings early on, and then Covid hit, so it kind of petered out. But in the lately, we have been coordinating this group of technical experts that we hope will advise the official Advisory Committee.

  • Suzanne Case

    Person

We're very happy to continue in that role.

  • Jeanné Kapela

    Legislator

Fantastic. Okay, thank you so much. Members, any other questions? Okay, seeing none. We are going to move on to our next measure, SCR112SD1, requesting the city and County of Honolulu to light up City hall with purple lights on August 7th of each year in honor of National Purple Heart Day.

  • Adam Jansen

    Person

DAG stands on its written testimony in support of this bill. If you've been to the archives, you know we're a bunch of history nerds. We are very passionate about connecting people to their documentary heritage, and this resolution will help propel that forward.

  • Adam Jansen

    Person

We feel that now, hope more than ever, connecting to the lessons of the past are absolutely critical to understanding the problems of today. Democracy has been under assault on numerous levels. The whole concept of co equal branches of government is being distorted.

  • Adam Jansen

    Person

So we feel very, very strongly that by looking to our path, we can see what happened? What were the consequences? And by placing that within context, we think we can better prepare the next generation of leaders that are going to have to clean up this mess. So we thank you for this opportunity.

  • Adam Jansen

    Person

We ask for your not just support of this, but also participation in it as we move forward with more civic education. And thank you for this opportunity. And I'm ready to answer any questions you may have.
